Player of the Month-Andy Kwiatkowski

Posted in: Success Stories

Congrats to rising senior at Gaithersburg High School Andy Kwiatkowski for being named this months Dig In Player of the Month

Andy finished up a strong showcase season playing against some of the best competition in the country at Showcase events up and down the East Coast. Playing mostly on college fields at campuses the showcase circuit offers no easy passes and is designed to not prove to college coaches you have what it takes but also prove it to yourself.

“What stands out to me most about this competition is that so many of the pitchers throw hard and have good off-speed pitches, too. Also, there are almost no bad showcase teams.” says Andy.

Playing primarily shortstop and pitcher, Andy has also played some outfield this summer to help highlight his natural athleticism and durability on the field.

Andy on playing for Coach Ballance: “I love playing for Coach Ballance. He believes in me and that helps me play better. He gives me the opportunity to play different positions: shortstop, pitcher and outfield too. He knows baseball and makes it fun.”- Andy Kwiatkowski on playing for Coach Ballance

Andy recently won the 4A State Championship at Gaithersburg High School as their starting shortstop and also starts on the school’s varsity basketball team.

“Winning the state championship was a great feeling. It was a goal we had for a long time. All the hard work finally paid off”.

In the thick of his college selection process, Andy is open to the opportunity to possibly play both basketball and baseball at the next level.

“What stands out in my eyes about Andy is the way he plays the game. He’s a throwback player. He likes to get dirty, he likes to run hard, he plays the game with an aggressiveness that you unfortunately just don’t see enough anymore. It’s a characteristic that all good players have and Andy is no different” Steve Ballance.

As Andy enters his senior season we wish him the best in the classroom, on the court and on the field. We looked forward to seeing him chase another State Championship!
