Dig In Baseball 15U (Bremerman)
The Dig In Baseball 15U (Bremerman) improved to 6-2 this weekend with a stellar performance in the Elite Baseball Nittany Classic Tournament. Contributions from many players paved the way to a 5-0 weekend capped off with an extra inning walk off in the bottom of the 10th inning of the championship game. This was the first championship win of the summer for Coach Bremerman's team. The weekend started off with Eddie Dello Russo hurling his second complete game shutout of the young season. Game two ended in an 8-1 victory which was led by Nick Marley, Howie Fishman, and Zach Senders each collecting multiple hits on the day. This gave Coach Bremerman's team a 2-0 start and the number 1 seed heading into Championship Sunday.
Their first game Sunday morning was a low scoring battle against Elite Baseball MD Black. There were several lead changes until Elite tied the game 3-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. With a runner on third and 1 out, Zach Senders sent a sac fly into center field, driving in Ryan Pastor for the game winning run. Connor Leard was the winning pitcher.
The Quarter Final game was another hard fought victory in a rematch of the previous week where the Baltimore Red Birds eliminated Dig In Baseball 15U (Bremerman). The Redbirds jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st on a 3-run double. The Redbirds had a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the 4th until Dig In put up 6 runs. Howie Fishman and Evan Hall hit back to back doubles, driving in 2 runs each. A single by Graham Blondes and a sac fly by Ian Brady accounted for the other 2 runs scored. After 5 solid innings from starting pitcher Nick Marley, Ryan Hyman came in and shut the door for a 8-7 victory.
In the championship game versus the West Virginia Athletics, the Athletics jumped out to a 3-run lead in the top of the first. Dig In Baseball answered back with 5 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. After the 1st, starting pitcher Sam Mermelstein was locked in a pitcher's duel where no runs were scored for 5 innings. In a crazy turn of events, the Athletics scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning, tying the game and sending it into extras. The Athletics scored another run in the top of the 8th to take the lead. Dig In battled back and tied the game on a double by Evan Hall. Hall would turn out to be the hero for Dig In, hitting a single in the bottom of the 10th inning which scored Graham Blondes to give Dig In Baseball 15U their first tournament championship of the summer. Coach Bremerman was very proud of the way his players gave it their all the entire weekend and thanks everyone for the support that was given. He had this to say:
